When you don’t expect things to happen, they happen. And, they happen to an extent that you end with an Internship at world’s largest refinery complex, Reliance Industries Limited at Jamnagar in Gujarat.
The selection criteria adopted by Reliance was absurd and it didnt require much effort other than mailing my CV,to get through.
The best part of my internship was the accomodation i have been provided with and the networking i got into. The ambience of the township was truly amazing and it is one of those serene places where i would like to spend most of the evenings in my life.
Regarding the training,I was assigned a project where i had to work upon improving the efficiency of the RO membranes.Though the project was not challenging, it demanded some exhaustive and frequent trips to the plant to complete.Setting aside the project, internship was more about experiencing the corporate style of living, acquiring the skills to impress your superordinate and managing your colleagues to get your work done.I also had an opportunity to visit all the units of the refinery .The view of the world from the top of a 95 metre column, while the sulphur dioxide vapours tickle your body is something i am going to remember for a long time.
As Jamnagar is located in the remote corners of the country, and i was busy, dawdling the hours away in my office from 9 A.M to 6 P.M for six days a week, I had to cut down my travelling plans albeit i managed some trips to nearby places.
My writing would be incomplete without mentioning the friends i have made there. With a bunch of intelligent and lively fellow interns the experience with the organization always turns more exciting and fun.It was nice to interact with the guys from other IITs and good to hear when everyone started talking “PEACE” by the end of training period.
All in all it was an enriching experience where i got to learn many things.
